Apple will be overhauling the iPhone for its 2017's release. Recent leaks suggest that the tech giant embracing a new technology for its mobile device.

According to Forbes, it has attained reports that Apple is working on three versions for its 2017 iPhone line. While the other two would have carry a TFT-LCD model with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens, the third one will be a massive 5.8-inch with OLED technology. The 5.5-inch and the OLED would reportedly have dual cameras installed.

The use of OLED in the iPhone puts it on a better position competitively, as it allows the phones to be thinner and lighter that the LCD counterparts. It also has a higher contrast ration and works even without backlight, so it saves the smartphone more power.

On the flip side, this may cause some struggle for all three devices in 2017's line in terms of sales. Having only one device with OLED might lead to the sidelining of the budget-friendly 4.7-inch variant. Also, with Apple's current trend of increasing its pricing, as seen in its recent MacBook Pro release, may alienate some of its customers, preferring to go elsewhere to get the same specs as a top-tier iPhone with a lower cost.

This trend could also be seen with the cancellation of the iPhone SE. Despite being the cheapest and most reliable iPhone for 2016, GameNGuide revealed that, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, updates for the iPhone SE will cease due to its possible effects to the more profitable main lines, which at this time is the iPhone 7. There was also a prediction regarding the decline of iPhone 7 sales during the first half of 2017, due in part of a small demand for the device in the Asian market.

The iPhone SE was released in March 2016. Priced at $399 for 16GB and $449 for 64GB, packs most of the iPhone 6 in a modest 4-inch body of the iPhone 5.
