Gigi Hadid apologised for doing an impression of First Lady to be Melania Trump, during the American Music Awards on Sunday night.

MSN reported that Hadid had slipped into Melania's accent while co-hosting the awards show with SNL alum Jay Pharaoh and said " I love my husband, President Barack Obama and out children, Sasha and Malia".

The joke reportedly referenced Melania's plagarism of Michelle Obama during her Republican National Convention speech, but did'nt go down too well for Hadid on social media as users accused her of racism and bullying, the report added.

Variety reported that there were some who even threatened to boycott the upcoming Victoria's Secret fashion show. Gigi Hadid posted an apology soon after, saying that she believes Melania Trump understands that being in the limelight, sometimes brings unwanted parodies of celebrities. Hadid said that she too has been made fun of in parodies, and was able to find humour in it. She said she is sure that Melania knows how the industry works, and that Hadid is sorry if she has offended anyone, since she wishes only the best for her country.

MSN said that she mentioned in her post that it was an honour for her to host the AMA last night, and she has great respect for the writers in her business. She added that if she changed anything in the script, she did not have bad intentions, and it was done in good humour.

Gigi Hadid had looked at the crowd, pursed her lips to make it look like Melania Trump, and had started doing the impression, while her co-host said "Spot on", after she finished. The crowd is seen enjoying the show.

Gigi Hadid is an American fashion model of Palestinian origin. She was named the Daily Front Row's model of the year in 2015.
