Now this is a Merry Christmas for Netflix subscribers. A feature that they have been requesting for years is finally here. Netflix subscribers will now be able to download movies and shows that they want to watch and then check them out later even without connecting to the web. This feature is available for all Netflix subscribers around the world.

Variety reported this great news and mentioned the new app features that will help users download their shows. The new mobile app will have a "download" button located at the details section of a movie or TV series. There is also a new item located at the menu section that tells subscribers what they can download. Take note that not all movies and series on Netflix are available for download but it looks like a number of great shows are a part of the list.

Original Netflix shows available for download are "Orange Is the New Black," "House of Cards," "Marcos," ''Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Stranger Things," "The Clown" and "Master of None."

"Breaking Bad," "The Flash," "The Office," "Supernatural," "Minions," "Kung Fu Panda 3" and "The 100" are also available for downloads.

The following are not included: the new "Gilmore Girls" series, "Fuller House," Marvel greats like "Luke Cage," "Jessica Jones" and "Daredevil." Disney movies like "Zootopia," "Lilo & Stitch" and "Jungle Book" are also excluded.

Meanwhile, The Seattle Times reported that one of the main reasons Netflix has added this feature is that they are trying to match Amazon.com's downloadable videos option. By adapting this offline viewing feature, Netflix overtakes HBO Now and Hulu which also have plans to introduce this kind of option for their subscribers soon.

The new downloading feature is available in all plans. It is also available for iOS phones, Android devices and tablets. A device needs to have an iOS of 8.0 or Android 4.4.2 or later along with the latest version of the Netflix app on mobile.
