Warner Bros. has finally revealed the release date of the "Aquaman" standalone movie. The underwater superhero will swim into theaters in 2018 in IMAX and 3D with Jason Momoa as Aquaman. The marine hero will be caught in between the troubles of the surface world and Atlantis.

Variety has the scoop on the latest superhero to hit the big screen. It said that James Wan of "The Conjuring 2" and "Furious 7" will direct "Aquaman." The movie will be produced by Peter Safran and co-produced by Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder and Rob Cowan.

Warner Bros. already announced the plot for "Aquaman" last year but way back then there was no exact date for the movie's release. The character will be dealing with problems on the surface world as well as a possible revolt from the Atlanteans. Aquaman is the king of Atlantis and in the comic books he was actually half-human and half- Atlantean.

DC Comics fans have already caught a glimpse of Jason Momoa as "Aquaman" in March in "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice." He will again cameo on "Justice League" next year. And along with Momoa is Amber Heard who plays Mera, Aquaman's lady love. She will be in "Justice League" and will also reprise her role in "Aquaman" 2018.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter said that "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" has earned more than $870 million worldwide. This good news could also be due to the marine hero doing a cameo for the film. But no matter what made the movie soar through the box office, it paved the way for fans to get to know a little bit about "Aquaman."

Jason Momoa and Amber Heard will head to Australia to start filming "Aquaman" next year. This movie is actually just one of the many DC super hero flicks scheduled to be released soon. "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League" will premiere next year. "The Flash" will be in 2018 starring Ezra Miller, "Shazam" will be in 2019, "Cyborg" will be on 2020 starring Ray Fisher and "Green Lantern" in 2020.
