Just a few years after Lenovo acquired Motorola from Google, it's now clear that the Chinese based company wants to do a full overhaul of Motorola's products. There was a rumor going around that the Moto X was one of the products that Lenovo would eliminate from production, owing to awful sales.

However, Lenovo having the upper hand in all of Motorola's subsequent products, proved the world wrong by knowingly or unknowingly leaking a possible Moto X 2017. The rumor had stipulated that Lenovo would actually stop the production of Moto X, so as to unleash a new generation of Motorola phones, starting with the Moto Z.

So as to counter this rumor, it's possible that the amalgamated company leaked the 2017 Moto X in order to keep buyers at bay. Besides, since Lenovo has an edge over the merger, there is very little that Motorola would do to protect itself, if Lenovo reached to such a decision of leaking products.

Even so, it's unclear who leaked the Moto X. Whether Motorola itself or Lenovo did it, a solid fact remains that the production of the Moto X is not about to die, at least not until the close of 2017. According to GSM Arena, the Moto X 2017 will represent all previously released Moto X smartphones and will be slipped right under Motorola's 2017 flagship product, The Moto Z.

Gadgets NDTV analyzed the leaked photos and identified that the Moto X will be borrowing pretty much from the Z version in terms of design. For one, it won't have pins at its back casing to support Moto Mods, similar to the Z. In addition, it will have a home button where possibly a fingerprint sensor might be slotted in. We wouldn't predict much about the phones technical specs, now that nobody outside Lenovo has operated it. All we can do is speculate and hope that it won't disappoint.

Lenovo had announced at the opening of the year that it will focus on shifting Motorola's attention from advancing previous models like the Moto X, to producing far much newer and better phones. It is during this event that they implied that the Moto Z will be Motorola's flagship product for the entire 2017.
