Apple iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 are two of the most anticipated phones, slated for release in 2017. While both these flagships are still months away from their actual launch, several anticipations related to their features, design and display have already been made.

According to a report published by Forbes, a great deal of anticipation about flagship features are made based on the regular release of patents, which provides an insight into specific features that smartphone manufacturers are currently working on.

Information about recently-released patent dubbed 'Electronic Devices with Display and Touch Sensor Structures' concerned Apple, indicating that the engineers at the firm must be trying to develop a new touch feature for its upcoming flagship, iPhone 8.

The patent in question describes the technique that makes it possible to use touch sensors around any side of the phone. As a result, the touch is able to get information input from a new location. This paves way for creation of special embedded touch sensors, and eliminates the use of physical buttons for certain actions, such as those for volume control, power and home.

In addition, the publication reports that more effort will be put in developing the rear and the side of flagship killer. However, fully-functional touch-enabled rear panel as primary source of input is not yet anticipated for iPhone 8.

Meanwhile, it is rumored that Samsung Galaxy S8 will come with 8 GB RAM, instead of 6 GB. According to GSM Arena, the flagship smartphone would feature AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 5.7 inches display.

Samsung Galaxy S8 also pays attention to some of the most advanced features such as iris and fingerprint scanner, compass, gyro, heart rate meter, barometer and accelerometer. The smartphone is expected to run on the latest version of Android and will be based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chipset.

There will be a tough competition between iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8. However, the leaked details about the latter flagship puts it on the stronger side so far.
