"Star Wars Episode 8" is less than a year away and it means that the film fans will get to read greater number of speculation reports. One such reports claims that the Skywalker story may end soon with the end of the "Star Wars" trilogy in the making.

According to a report published by Entertainment Weekly, Disney and Lucasfilm may together decide upon the course of the future "Star Wars" films in January. Both the groups waited to see how good or bad "Rouge One" performed in the first month of its release.

The publication reports that the team wanted to assess the performance of the first "Star Wars" filler film outside the trilogy format. Lucasfilms wanted to see how people respond to such a film before deciding on the future of the next set of trilogies.

Now that it is clear that "Rouge One" did excellent in the first month of its release, it is speculated that Lucasfilms may stick to the solo format of "Star Wars" movies in the future. That is, that "Star Wars Episode 8" and "Star Wars Episode 9" may be the last movies released as a part of a trilogy and that Leia and Luke Skywalker saga may completely end here.

This is evident from a statement made by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. She confirmed that talks are going on within the company about the future of the "Star Wars" films and relying on just the standalone films is a real possibility.

This indicates that the Skywalker family saga may completely end in the forthcoming films, until and unless a standalone film is being made on either of the Skywalker clan member.

Meanwhile, it is also rumored that "Star Wars Episode 8" will focus on Maz Kanata and how she steals Luke's lightsaber from Kylo Ren. It was initially claimed by Movie Pilot that Kylo Ren had recovered Luke's lightsaber from an unknown prosperous man.
