iOS 10 running on more than 76% of Apple devices

Apple has updated its iOS usage statistics and it looks like iOS 10 has been a hit for Apple as the newest OS has already made it to 76% of devices. iOS 10 has made it to a large number of devices in a very less time.

iOS 10 was announced by the company on September 13, 2016, and within four months the operating system has already made to more than 3/4th of Apple devices worldwide. Apple has previously said that iOS 10 has the fastest adoption rate of any release before reports PhoneArena. According to BGR, iOS installation rate has seen a significant growth compared to last year. Talking of the numbers, a record 24% growth was seen this year.

However, iOS 9 is still functional in 18 percent devices which have not been updated to the new release. The majority of these devices have hardware which cannot be updated to iOS 10 because of compatibility and requirements issue as iOS 10 requires new hardware to be installed. It is worth noting that iOS 10 is compatible only with iPhone 5 and later, iPad 3 and above, iPad Mini 2 and later and iPod Touch 6th gen. Also, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were launched with iOS 10 which helped boost the adoption rate more.

The iOS 10, however, has its own share of problems which may have lowered the adoption since some power users wait for the review of the update before installing it into their devices. Battery drain was a major issue with iOS 10 and it was reportedly caused by a bug. Users complained that their devices turned off completely when the battery reached around 30 percent. The battery indicator suddenly dropped to 1% and immediately the phone will shut down. Other minor issues include 'Raise to wake' feature not working, stutter while switching apps, Notes app occasionally closing on its own and Contacts disappearing.
