The camouflage-clad Robertson family definitely did not blend in with other reality TV shows ratings on Wednesday night!
The season 3 finale of A&E's beloved "Duck Dynasty" commanded their age bracket with record-breaking ratings, as the show called in 9.6 million viewers who watched the Louisiana-native family take a vacation from their duck-calling duties in Hawaii.
The reality/comedy show on the cable network that features the family behind a successful duck-call manufacturing business in the Louisiana bayou, expanded their "reign," reports LA Times, as the finale episode was the most-watched series telecast in A&E history among all key demos, bringing in 5.6 million adults 25-54, 5.5 million adults 18-49 and 2.6 million adults 18-34.
Although Fox's American Idol brought in the most overall viewers on Wednesday night, " Duck Dynasty" is hot on Idol's tails! The cable series topped the long-running reality singing competition in the adults 18-49 bracket, bringing in a 4.3 rating, while American Idol pulled in a 3.2 rating, notes E! News.
Season 3 of "Duck Dynasty" proved to be best yet for the Robertsons, as the average viewership of the show this season was 8.4 million, an increase of 95% compared with season two, reports LA Times.
"Duck Dynasty" is no longer the ugly ducking of the A&E network as it now commands the networks ratings. Previously, the most-popular A&E series was "Storage Wars," which hit its peak in late November 2011 when an episode snagged an average of 5.6 million.
What is all the quack about?
A&E introduces the Robertsons, a Louisiana bayou family living the American dream as they operate a thriving business while staying true to their family values and lifestyle. The Robertson clan got rich selling duck-hunting supplies via their Duck Commander company, but still remain down-to-earth despite their money (unlike other famous reality tv families like Keeping Up with Kardashians & Jon & Kate Plus 8).
The Duck Dynasty show description, on their Facebook page, reads:
Ask anyone in Louisiana and they'll tell you that the bayou state's favorite first family doesn't live in the governor's mansion but in the backwoods, where the Robertsons' rags-to-riches story is still unfolding. A homegrown mom-and-pop operation, Duck Commander has become a sporting empire by fabricating top-of-the-line duck calls and decoys out of salvaged swamp wood.
Washington Post states, that one of the appeals of the unique reality show is that Duck Dynasty is "refreshingly insult-hurling, furniture-overturning, temper-tantrum-throwing free. The family even eats dinner together."
The Robertson family is reportedly beginning to film season 4 of "Duck Dynasty," which is slated to premiere later this year. However, the cast has reportedly demanded more than $200,000 per episode to return to A&E for the upcoming season, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Hopefully this new found-fame will not alter the admirable Robertson family values as their "Duck Dynasty" empire continues to expand its reality TV reign.
