Hostess recalls Holiday Twinkies for possible salmonella contamination

Hostess Brands issued a recall for their Peppermint Twinkies on suspicion of salmonella contamination. Salmonella is an organism that may cause serious and in some cases fatal infections. The recall is only for their white peppermint Twinkies. The directive was issued on Monday in order to avoid any inconvenience on the part of the customers. There have been no reports of any illness nor any one has been tested positive for the salmonella contamination but the Hostess management decided the recall to avoid any risks.

According to Fortune, palmer candies also issued a recall for their products that might be salmonella-contaminated. Their recalled products are said to be made up of "Velley Milk" milk powder. The products that palmers recalled form the market include Cookies, Christmas Tree pretzels, cream bark, Chocolates, Almond bark, Peppermint bark and Trails end confections.

All the recalled products were produced between October 20 and December 9, 2016. Hostess suspected the confectionary coating of the cookies for salmonella contamination. According to Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the salmonella was found in the samples of Valley Milk. Valley milk was used in the production of both the Palmers and Hostess products.

Recalls form both the companies is voluntary. Hostess is a Kansas City Missouri-based company providing Chocolates, Biscuits, and cookies nationwide. Fox News quoted the Food and Drug Administration FDA as saying that although, no reports of counter-productivity have been reported, Hostess is recalling their product as a precautionary measure.

The Universal Product Code (UPC) of the recalled product is 888109111571. The recalled product was sold in 09 pack boxes and was supplied to Grocery stores across the United States. Salmonella indications are Fever, Nausea, diarrhea, food poisoning, vomiting and abdominal pain. In some rare cases, the salmonella may cause serious disorder in the blood stream leading to serious illness.

Hostess issued a warning advising its customers who have purchased the product not to consume it.
