Samsung and its vision to launch a foldable phone has been one of the most talked-about topics in the smartphone industry. Now it is rumored that the Tech giant may finally be planning to release te one-of-its-own kind of phone in the third quarter of 2017.

According to a report published by Korea Herald, Samsung is definitely working on much-rumored foldable phone and is planning to release it in the third quarter, which starts in July. The publication reports that the phone will have a foldable display, which would open up into a 7-inch tablet.

It is rumored that the electronic giant will be shipping as many as 100,000 units of the foldable phone during the third quarter. The company always has plans to work on such a phone, however, it discarded its idea over concerns that Samsung users will find it difficult to fold and open the device every time they wanted to use it.

An email asking for confirmation about the fold-in phone has been sent to Samsung, however, its officials have not responded as yet. But the company has always been interested in building such a device.

The publication further reports that since Samsung has already secured the fold-in technology, it would not be that tough for them to come up with a phone that actually uses this technology. However, the source said that the company has not yet decided to actually launch the phone due to profitability and marketability issues.

According to CNET, Samsung filed a patent in 2015 that contained design concepts for two categories of phones - foldable and those that can be rolled up like a scroll. It is yet to be seen whether Samsung would actually go ahead and apply this technology in the devices that are yet to come in 2017.

Manufacturing a foldable phone is not that easy. Foldable phone means that the rigid parts of the smartphone - such as the circuit board - also need some level of modification, which is a tedious process.
