Samsung has made the headlines in 2016 for all the wrong reasons. We are clearly hinting towards its Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. The company, however, is prepping to revive its lost glory this year. The South-Korean tech giant has been planning to launch its much-speculated device - Galaxy S8 some time in April.

To add to fuel of rumoured launches by Samsung, a new report published by BGR suggests that the company is currently working on a new foldable smartphone that can be transformed into a 7-inch tablet.

The new foldable smartphone will be called 'Galaxy X1' and is expected to announce later this year. This rumour reportedly follows a variety of other reports that were published earlier that suggested that Samsung is looking to launch foldable smartphones this year.

The news was first cited on The Korea Herald, which reported that since the company already secured fold-in phone technology, it was not a big challenge to shift into the fold-out phones. The report further added that the South-Korean tech giant is expected to roll out over 100,000 units of fold-out devices in the third quarter of 2017. The final decision will be made after the personnel re-shuffle of the company's information technology and mobile communications unit is carried out.

This certainly does come across as a big news as one can expect a serious competition between big players as even LG is planning on rolling out fold-out technology any time soon. LG has been working on this technology for the past three-four years and interestingly, LG may be using folding screens for smartphones built by companies.

Let's hope that these rumours are true, as it would be interesting to see the market shifting from the typical LCD display devices to something quite unique - fold-out technology. Stay tuned for more updates.
