Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Update: Rechargeable Surface Pen, Kaby Lake Processor, Specs, Features

Since the success of Surface Pro 4, tech enthusiast has been waiting for another Surface Pro from Microsoft. Even before its announcement, talks about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 have been flying on the internet. It is rumored that the Surface Pro 5 will be launched in the first quarter of 2017. It is expected to come with an updated version of Windows 10.

According to CNET, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be using the "Kaby Lake" processor which is an upgrade from "Skylake" and is currently the latest Intel processor for laptops. It will house a powerful core i7.The Surface Pro 5 is also rumored to come with a 12.5 inch 4K screen and is reported to support running 3D at 60 fps. It is also expected that Microsoft will replace Super AMOLED screens to IPS touch ones.

The price for Surface Pro varies from $899 and it can rocket up to $2000 depending on the hardware and accessories added. You can get an Intel Core M3 CPU version with 128 SSD and 4GB or RAM plus a touchscreen stylus for $899. For additional horsepower, you can get the more powerful Intel Skylake processor for $999. Upgrade the storage into 256 GB SSD and the RAM to 8GB and you will get the Surface Pro 5 for $1299.

The Suface Pro's stylus, which is called the Surface Pen which is included in default, has been reported to be rechargeable and have a charging dock. This model seems to be based on iPad Pro's Apple Pen. But needless to say, this is a great upgrade from the former triple A battery model. There is also a renewed Surface Pen Loop, in which its sole purpose in life is to charge the Surface Pen via USB connection for prolonged use. Microsoft is also rumored to have added a USB C port to the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

Microsoft was expected to boost the battery life of this tablet. The promised 9 hours of video playback was not reached when TechRadar conducted a local test.
