iMac 2017 Update: Launch Date, Price And Specs

Apple iMac with Retina-screen and Intel's Skylake processors was released in Late 2015 and since then, Apple has not refreshed the line. It has been more than one year and Apple fans are waiting for new and updated iMacs.

Since Intel released its new Kaby Lake series of processors, there are speculations of a refreshed Apple's desktop with the new chips. In addition, Microsoft released its new Surface Studio with up to date hardware, Apple's answer to that is expected to come soon making the competition fierce. As reported by MacWorld, Tim Cook mentioned iMac while discussing the future of its Mac desktop.

Tim Cook responded in a post on Apple's Employee Discussion Board that "great desktops in our roadmap," and added "nobody should worry about that." which clearly suggest that a desktop refresh is on the way as reported by Fortune. The Cupertino giant has a history of releasing new Mac PCs during the fall season but this did not happen in 2016. A Mac-focused event took place in October 2016 but no new products were announced which disheartened Apple fans. However, a new Macbook Pro with an addition of a touch bar was announced.

iMac 2017 Specs

Since Intel's Kaby Lake processors are out, it is expected that these processors will make way into the refreshed iMacs. These processors are built on a 14nm manufacturing process and support ThunderBolt 3, USB 3.1 and DisplayPort 1.2. Specifically, it is speculated that one of the best mainstream processor, Core i7-7700K will make a best bet for 2017 iMac. It is also believed that Apple will choose AMD Polaris graphics chips for the new iMac. Also, Intel's Iris Pro 6200 which comes with Kaby Lake processor is expected to be featured.

VR compatibility is another buzz which the new iMac is speculated to flaunt as current-gen Macs are incompatible. Additionally, flash storage might be used in next generation iMac as it will make the computer much faster because of no mechanical parts involved.
