"Arrow" Season 5 is bringing fans so many twists and surprises. This season, fans will see Dolph Lundgren again as Konstantin Kovar, a Russian crime lord, in the next few episodes. There will be flashback-heavy episodes, and fans will see how Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) fared in Russia during his lost years before he became the "Arrow".

Fans will finally meet the villain Konstantin Kovar

In Season 1 Episode 3, fans learned a bit about Oliver's Russian backstory. Apparently, he was one of the higher-ups in a Russian crime group called the Bratva. He joined the organization so that he could take down Konstantin Kovar. Screen Rant reports that the next few episodes in "Arrow" Season 5 will focus heavily on Kovar and Oliver's time in Russia.

Fans know from past seasons that Oliver had been betrayed by Bratva and that he was tortured. This piece of Oliver's past had only been hinted at slowly, but fans will finally be able to see the full story in the next episodes. Kovar will be one of the most cunning and powerful supervillains in "Arrow" Season 5, but the writers and producers haven't divulged whether they will reveal another hero related to Kovar.

More heroes will appear in "Arrow" Season 5

In the comics, Kovar is the father of the superhero, Red Star. He was also an archeologist, who dragged his son to his expeditions. On one such adventure, they discovered a spaceship that ran aground. It exploded and gave Red Star his powers. He was the first official Russian superhero in the DC comics and was a member of the Teen Titans.

In the "Arrow" TV show, Kovar was mentioned in Season 4 as a Russian dictator. There has been no mention of Leonid Konstantinovitch Kovar a.k.a. Red Star. Marc Guggenheim, one of the producers on the show, told Comicbook that they will be focusing a lot on Russia this season. He also said that Kovar will be meeting with a corrupt American multi-millionaire.

"Make of that what you will," he said, but it sounds like the "Arrow" Season 5 is going to touch upon some political matters. "Arrow" Season 5 promises to introduce a lot of villains and superheroes into the mix. A different Laurel Lance will return on Jan. 25 and Talia al Ghul will make her appearance on Feb. 1, 2017.
