"Pacific Rim: Uprising" released new filming photos of John Boyega in his Jaeger suit. The "Pacific Rim 2" movie is set to air on Feb. 23, 2018, but its set photos are making fans itch to watch the sequel as early as possible. What's in store for the next film? Will fans see their favorite characters return?

New actors will join "Pacific Rim 2" cast

John Boyega from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will play the role of Idris Elba's son. Idris Elba starred as Stacker Pentecost in the first "Pacific Rim" film. However, his character died without revealing anything about a son. Meanwhile, his adopted daughter, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), will return to "Pacific Rim: Uprising".

According to Blastr, Newton Geisler (Charlie Day) and Gottlieb (Burn Gorman) will reprise their roles in the sequel. Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaney will also join the "Pacific Rim: Uprising" cast. Unfortunately, Charlie Hunnam, who led the previous film as Raleigh Becket, will not be back for the sequel. He was approached for it, but his busy schedule prohibited him from taking on another project.

There are more rumors flying around regarding the "Pacific Rim: Uprising" cast, but one thing's for sure, Karl Urban won't be part of the sequel. This has disappointed some fans, who were hoping to see the actor in the action sci-fi follow-up. Also, Ramin Djawadi, the original composer for the first film's soundtrack, will not be back for "Pacific Rim 2".

New "Pacific Rim: Uprising" set photos of John Boyega in a Jaeger suit

Den of Geek reports that John Paesano, who composed the score for Netflix's "Daredevil", will take the helm instead. Paesano worked before with Steven DeKnight, the new director for "Pacific Rim: Uprising". Guillermo del Toro, who directed the 2013 hit, eventually handed the sequel over to DeKnight but stayed on as a producer.

The first film went on to earn $411 million in ticket sales worldwide. Fans are expecting the sequel to be bigger and cooler. Meanwhile, set photos of John Boyega in his Jaeger outfit were released to heighten the "Pacific Rim: Uprising" hype.
