As a belated Christmas gift to fans, "Rick and Morty" co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland released a sneak preview of the show's third season but fans of the Adult Swim show would have to wait for a bit longer for the actual release date as the showrunners admitted to some delays in production.

In an Indiewire interview with Dan Harmon, he owned up to the delays and offered no excuse as to why the show has suffered some setback in the schedule.

He said that even his partner Justin Roiland would agree that they were the cause of the delay because the show gets more difficult to write with every season. He even joked that it was their constant arguing that took up a lot of time from the developing the upcoming season.

"We have fights all the time and then we have fights about why we're having fights. Well, we didn't fight during Season 2, that's why it's taking longer! All this fighting! So OK, let's stop fighting!'"  he said.

To emphasize Harmon's point, Adult Swim released a clip to illustrate how far along they are on some of the episodes. Aside from one standard backdrop board, the rest of the clip showed raw sketches of the animated characters that have not been cleaned up and colored yet.

The hosts of the clip said that while the episode entitled "Development Meeting" was still rough, it was still a positive sign that the creators are still moving forward and that some progress is still being made.

It can be recalled that the last episode of "Rick and Morty" was aired on October 4, 2015 but no exact date for its return has been announced by the cable network. The show has become a surprise hit, drawing more and more viewers to its raunchy brand of comedy.
