SyFy has aired the pilot episode of "the Magicians" Season 2 last January 25 and effectively set up the direction of characters for the rest of its sophomore season. While the episode delivered on the fun aspect, showrunner Sera Gamble promised that the show has some tragedies hidden up its sleeves in future episodes.

The premiere, entitled "Knight of Crowns" saw Quentin, Margo, Eliot, and Alice all become kings and queens of Fillory. By its end, however, it is only Eliot that is left handling the ball after Alice and Quentin set off to find a powerful magic to battle the Beast. Penny also got his severed hand from last season reattached by a stranger from a river who got annoyed at his attitude and caused the hand to "malfunction," recapped Inverse.

Julia has also allied with the Beast to exact her revenge against Reynard the Fox, who raped her last season and killed her friends. It remains uncertain how long the alliance will last. Julia already refused to relinquish a part of her dark magic called The Shade because she believes this may come in handy with a battle against Reynard.

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Sera Gamble promised that the season has plenty in store, and they're not kidding around as they are determined to kill off major characters.

"I can say that major characters will die this season. So we have fun, but it's also very serious at times," she said.

Gamble also shared that Quentin and Alice's relationship will remain complicated and further exacerbated by the fact that they're being chased by otherworldly creatures out for their blood.

Julia and the Beast's relationship will also grow darker and more dangerous as he becomes a real character. While Eliot struggles with the responsibilities of being king of Fillory, Margo enjoys it the most and takes her newfound status very seriously.

But what's most interesting to watch out for this season are two massive musical numbers in episodes written by John McNamara, just because that's how this show rolls.
