Protest Against Donald Trump At Ann Arbor Folk Festivals By Jenny Lewis And Indigo Girls

The 40^th Ann Arbor Folk Festival, which took place on a weekend, was no surprise to the audience with protest songs being a part of the occasion. The women's march event which occurred the previous weekend along with the first week of President Donald Trump at the White House added a strong political tone to the Folk Festival.

The two-night event, which was held in the Hill Auditorium at the University of Michigan on Friday, January 27, 2017, also had direct and subtle references. Susan Werner the emcee for the event also received a standing ovation for pairing the song "Back in the U.S.S.R by 'The Beatles' with a new bitter and defiant song called "My Strange Nation", reported Billboard.

The Indigo Girls with their performance of "Shame on You" also gave a timely reference to issue on the restriction of immigrants. Jenny Lewis with her band NAF protested against Donald Trump with their performance on the song "Door", where the chorus of the song "Don't shut the door" was given more emphasis.

Margo Price stated that her song "4 Years Of Chances" has taken a new meaning since of late. She further articulated herself stating that folk music is still alive and goes well with the current situation of the world, as per Snewsi.

"This is Home" was introduced by the band 'We Banjo 3' from Ireland, also voiced their views that the world would have been a better place if we all had to practice love and not hate.

In reference to the same, Nahko bear, a Native American singer and songwriter, with his band 'Medicine for the People' also electrified the crowd on Friday by changing his anthem "Dear Brother" to "Peace in America". He even addressed the gathering by saying that he feels deeply honored to perform on a stage where in 1962 the late Martin Luther King Jr. spoke.
