‘Bates Motel’ Season 5 Air Date, Cast & Spoilers: Rihanna's Marion Crane Plays Pivotal Role

"Bates Motel" Season 5 just gave fans a first look at Rihanna as Marion Crane, the iconic character in Alfred Hitchcok's 1960's classic "Psycho." So, what should fans expect?

Like in the original "Psycho" movie, Marion Crane in "Bates Motel" Season 5 arrives at the motel all drenched in rain as she attempts to escape her problems, Cinema Blend reported. However, the thriller TV series has a different perspective than its movie counterpart.

For now, it still remains a mystery whether Marion Crane will be playing a key role or if she's only a tertiary character on the show. It was previously revealed that Rihanna will appear in several episodes in "Bates Motel" Season 5.

Nevertheless, RiRi's casting has sparked huge excitement for fans of the show. "We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way," executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin said about having Rihanna on "Bates Motel" Season 5, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. Interestingly, Rihanna is a huge fan of "Bates Motel" while the show's cast and crew were also a big fan of the award-winning singer.

Meanwhile, this isn't Rihanna's first acting role, but it is her first time to appear in a TV series. Rihanna's participation in the "Bates Motel" Season 5 show was first revealed during the San Diego Comic Con 2016. The role of Marion Crane was originally portrayed by Janet Leigh in the 1959 movie "Psycho." The character went on to become a cult legend, wherein Marion's death in the shower has become one of the most recognizable and iconic scenes in movie history.

"Bates Motel" Season 5 will pick up after Norma Bates' death in Season 4. The story moves forward with her son, Norman (Freddie Highmore), inching closer to the psycho that fans know from the classic slasher movie. Star Max Theriot will also be making his directorial debut in "Bates Motel" Season 5.
