In a few months, fans will finally get to see the return of their beloved guardians in "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2." The big treat is, they will be introduced to the newest member of the troop: Mantis. Comic book lovers know her very well but she is a new face on the big screens.

In the comics, Mantis is part of the full Guardians line-up. In "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2," Mantis will be seen tagging alongside Ego, the Living Planet. Ego will be played by veteran actor Kurt Russell, while Mantis will be portrayed by Pom Klementieff. The sequel to "Guardians of the Galaxy" is expected to show the roots of Ego and Mantis' relationship.

IGN spoke with Chris Pratt during a press visit on the set of "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2." Klementieff's co-star referred to the actress as someone "totally born to play Mantis..." Pratt went on to dish that Mantis will be playing a key role in "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2." He added that Mantis will be a "major member" of the guardians.

Klementieff also provided the media with other details about Mantis. The actress said Mantis will be spending her early life with Ego. The duo will be seen traveling around the universe in "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2." Mantis turns out to be Ego's "right hand."

Director James Gunn also took the opportunity to tease more about Mantis. Just like the other guardians, Mantis is an "outcast." Gunn further explained that there are similarities between Dave Bautista's Drax and Mantis. Mantis will also find another lady to relate with in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." She will relate to Zoe Saldana's Gamora.

Last year, Klementieff told Entertainment Weekly that her character in "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is an "alien." It has yet to be revealed how her alien origins will be depicted in the sequel. However, comic book fans can remember that Mantis is also a former "Avenger."

"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is slated for release on May 5, 2017, in the U.S. Fans in the U.K. and Ireland will get to watch the film earlier: April 28, 2017. Stay tuned for more updates.
