'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13 Spoilers: Alex And Meredith Romance Unlikely, Says Actors

Alex may have been spared from going to jail by no less than Andrew DeLuca but the rivalry between the two men seems only to have heated up instead of dying down. And in the middle of all this is Jo, which spells a potential love triangle in the coming episodes.

It can be recalled that in "Grey's Anatomy" Episode 12 entitled "None of Your Business," Alex's fate was finally revealed when Andrew dropped the charges against him at the last minute because he felt like Jo was already suffering too much.  Bailey was also forced to make a tough decision when she suspended Meredith for refusing to work with newcomer Eliza, who is being shunned by most of the attending doctors because of their sympathy for Richard.

With April serving as Meredith's temporary replacement, Bailey reinstates Alex as soon as his legal issues cleared up. But now, "Grey's Anatomy" fans want to know what happens to Alex and Meredith after she fought so hard to support him amid all his personal issues.

It has been rumored that a romantic relationship may spring between the two characters in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13  given the stronger bond that they now share being the only two original interns remaining from their batch. From five original interns at the beginning of the show, Izzie Stevens, George O' Malley and Meredith's best friend Cristina Yang have been written off the show based on the actors' request.

Justin Chambers, who plays the role of Alex did not discount the fact that in real life, the level of friendship that their characters share on screen could develop into a romantic relationship. Alex and Jo broke up amid his legal issues and her confession that she was married to an abusive husband who was hunting her down, while Meredith lost her husband and the love of her life Dr. Derek Shepherd to a tragic car accident in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 11, reported TVline.

"Personally, I don't see that [happening] right now. I think it would be kind of strange," Chambers said. Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey in the series, agreed and said that Alex and Meredith relationship was more like brother and sister, instead of romantic.

Grey's Anatomy Season 13 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
