Almost twenty years after the tragic death of the beloved Princess Diana, a new biography focused on Prince Charles is unearthing new details regarding his issues with his father, Prince Philip. The royal successor allegedly believes he was "threatened" to marry the late Princess Diana.

"Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life," is an upcoming biography from best-selling author Sally Bedell Smith. The book tackles the recent and past life of Queen Elizabeth's first child. It also digs deep into his relationship with Prince Philip.

According to Sally Bedell Smith's account, Prince Philip played a role in getting Prince Charles married to Princess Diana. The then-dating couple were reported to have spent one night on a train back in the 1980s. The Duke of Edinburgh then wrote a letter to his son.

In his letter to Prince Charles, Prince Philip urged his son to make a decision. According to a new report, Pamela Hicks, Prince Philip's cousin, commented that the former husband of Princess Diana felt as if his dad was telling him to "get engaged" due to the train incident. The now 68-year-old successor to Queen Elizabeth's throne thought his dad's note of intervention was "coercive and accusatory."

As fans know, the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana didn't turn out as expected. It appears that Prince Charles wasn't ready to tie the knot when Prince Philip intervened. It is unclear how Queen Elizabeth reacted to the issue.

Last year, another royal biographer, Gyles Brandreth, revealed bits about Prince Charles and his relationship with Prince Philip. According to the Mail Online, Prince Philip referred to his son as a "romantic," and himself as a "pragmatist."

The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, knew from the start that he and Prince Charles "see things differently." This could also be linked to the incident that took place when the second husband of Camilla Parker Bowles was still dating Princess Diana.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana tied the knot in 1981 and divorced in 1996. The two share two kids, Prince William and Prince Harry.
