Formula E Championship is a racing series that uses only electric cars. Started in 2014, the series has now evolved and the 5th season will kick in 2018 featuring electric cars from Audi, Jaguar, Renault and Spark. Spark Racing Technologies has introduced a new concept car which will be ready by the next season of FIA.

The second-generation Formula E cars will be built by Spark Racing Technologies according to the new concept images released by the company. The new car is named as SRT05e. For the new electric car, the company has promised more efficiency, improved aerodynamics and reduction in the weight. Additionally, the company has touted that it will focus on driver safety and the car will be loaded with certain safety features.

The final version of the car will look similar to the concept car but the functionality and drivability will remain the same. Spark is hoping that its next generation Formula E car will complete the race on a single charge since the current generation formula cars are not able to complete an entire race without swapping the cars during a pit stop, reported The Verge.

The next gen-E car will accommodate a larger battery pack with a capacity of 54kWh. However, the increase in the battery will add to the weight of the car by 10 percent, reported DigitalTrends. The SRT05e will have an improved powertrain and it will be radically different from the current generation electric racing cars. The Formula E car now has a closed cockpit and the side view mirrors show a windscreen.

The fifth season of Formula E championship is going to be crucial. Several manufacturers including McLaren and Sony are working on new battery packs for the racing cars that will last the entire race. Also, it is reported that some new manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz and BMW will also join the series in the future.

The average power of a Formula E cars are 250 horsepower and these cars are able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in three seconds. These cars have generators which are used to recharge the batteries. The noise level for an E car is around 80 dB. The upcoming cars are designed to be more powerful and will have an inverter, cooling system and a better battery.
