Social Media staple Twitter is slowly merging its Periscope service into the main platform. After experiencing some setbacks by letting the video-streaming platform function on its own, Twitter is now offering video streaming as part of its service.

According to Tech Crunch, Twitter adds the 'Explore' function over 'Top Trends'. The function will feature videos from Periscope, and users can view the said videos without the need to go to another app or site. Twitter has been playing with the idea for some time now, with live streaming made available for the service starting last December.

Periscope in itself was really struggling in its field, with big names like YouTube and Instagram already dominating that part of the market. With the migration to Twitter, not only will the social media platform become more competitive, it would also allow more opportunities for marketing and advertising.

This is another angle looked at by Twitter. As Forbes reported, several known media outlets, like Business Insider and its sister companies, had more than 6 million views last January through Twitter. With the said integration of Twitter and Periscope, the social media company could attract more publishers, therefore generating more income.

The biggest obstacle for Twitter now would be its user base. Comparatively lower than big names like Facebook and YouTube at 310 million active users, the user base really needs to be worked on. However, if they are able to provide better and more engaging ways for users to use their service, then it would only not attract more publishers, but also draw more users in their platform.

The microblogging site was established in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams. Described as the SMS of the internet, the social media platform lets users post messages of up to 140 characters.
