"Goliath" Season 2 has been confirmed and this time, it will have a new showrunner. The Amazon legal drama starring Billy Bob Thornton will be handled by Clyde Phillips. The show's upcoming season will, however, introduce a lot of new cast members.

It was inevitable for "Goliath" Season 2 to happen. When "Goliath" premiered in 2015, it garnered much following and became one of the most binged scripted shows on Amazon. It was also the first Amazon show ordered straight to series with eight episodes in December 2015.

Clyde Phillips has been tapped to be the "Goliath" Season 2 showrunner. According to Variety, Phillips has produced popular, high stakes shows before like "Dexter" and "Nurse Jackie". Currently, Phillips is involved in a lot of different projects. His "Big Little Lies" will begin on HBO while his "Feed the Beast" will start on AMC.

His other series, "Mr. Mercedes", based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, will start later this year at the AT&T Network Audience. Phillips is set to join "Goliath" Season 2 executive producers David E. Kelley, Jonathan Shapiro and Ross Fineman. Kelley and Shapiro created the legal drama that premiered in October 2016.

"Great shows like this help elevate the art of storytelling. We can't wait to bring our customers a new season soon," said Joe Lewis, head of Amazon Studio's comedy and drama department. The legal drama stars award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton, but he is the only confirmed "Goliath" Season 2 cast member.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, only some of the Season 1 cast will return. The first season starred William Hurt, Molly Parker, Maria Bello, Sarah Wynter and Olivia Thirlby among others. The producers have confirmed that "Goliath" Season 2 will have a brand new case, so fans will expect a new batch of actors.

Season 1 revolved around a washed-up lawyer (Thornton) trying to get back on his feet after his career went down the drain. He had gotten his client off on a technicality, but the latter went on to slaughter an entire family. Thornton won a Golden Globe last January for his performance. The actor hinted that "Goliath" Season 2 will have a similarly brilliant and intense storyline.
