The first season of the popular series gained a huge fan following, increasing the pressure on the showrunners to step up their game in "Westworld" Season 2. On public demand, some of the major characters (including one who presumably died) might be returning for "Westworld" Season 2.

The finale of the Season 1 was not only a shocker, but also gave rise to a number of questions; for instance, how was the show going to function without its ultimate mastermind - Anthony Hopkins, who plays Robert Ford. The female protagonist, Dolores, shot Ford through the head at the end of the finale, giving viewers the impression that he was killed. Also, due to Hopkins' high stature as an actor, it was understandable that a season was the most that showrunners could retain him for. So, what should fans expect in "Westworld" Season 2?

Some recent hints from showrunners and fans point to the fact that Ford might be alive after all and make a grand entrance in "Westworld" Season 2. One of the reasons behind this theory is the fact that the plot of Season 2 is designed in a way that cannot be carried out without the presence of Ford.

"Westworld" Season 2, according to reports, will focus on explaining the inner mechanisms of the hosts, something that was touched upon, but not fully explored in the first season. Knowing the science of it all will let viewers understand better as to why hosts cannot be killed, can be controlled by their makers and yet are identical to humans.

"They're closer to biological than they are mechanical, but they don't suffer brain death the same way we do," said Jonathan Nolan, one of the "Westworld" Season 2 showrunners, Den Of Geek reports. "They're largely indistinguishable from human beings, but their brains don't require oxygen-which opens up interesting possibilities." But viewers will not only be the ones curious to discover more about the innate workings of these hosts, as showrunners revealed that the hosts themselves will go through a self-discovery process.

Also, speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Nolan had told fans to "assume nothing", which could also hint at the fact that the "Westworld" Season 2 showrunners might be planning to bring Hopkins back. Another character who is confirmed to make a comeback is the Man in Black (Ed Harris).

The exact release date of "Westworld" Season 2 has not been revealed yet. All that is known is that it has definitely been renewed for the next season and most likely premiere in 2018.
