AMD has finally unleashed the beast - The Ryzen. Based on a completely new architecture, AMD's next generation processor is made to dethrone Intel and it's "Core I" series of processors. AMD has announced three chips under the Ryzen series.

AMD Ryzen chips use 4.8 billion transistors and have 52 percent more instructions per clock. This translates to a higher efficiency of the chip and AMD is the first company to achieve this level of IPC (Instructions Per Clock), Anandtech reported.

AMD Ryzen CPUs look very promising and have a great price to performance ratio. The three CPUs announced feature eight cores and 16 threads.

AMD Ryzen 7 1800X : It is the highest performing Ryzen chip and has a 3.6GHz base clock. The CPU can go up to 4.0GHz on turbo and will cost $499. This chip performs similar to the rival Intel Core i7-6900K which costs over $1000. AMD's chip performs 9% better than the Intel's CPU. The rated TDP for the chip is 95W.

AMD Ryzen 7 1700X : It's a mid-range Ryzen offering from AMD. The chip has 3.4GHz base clock and can go up to 3.8GHz on turbo. This chip rivals Core i7-6800K which costs $425 but AMD's chip performs 39% better in benchmarks and costs only $399.

AMD Ryzen 7 1700: This is the entry-level Ryzen chip to feature an 8-core CPU. The chip has 3.0GHz base clock and can go up to 3.7GHz on turbo. This processor will retail for $329 and will give a fierce competition to Core i7-7700K which costs $350.

AMD is giving a head to head competition to Intel in the high performance CPU market. AMD might also launch Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 chips soon which will be targeted at mid-range and entry-level market respectively, PCWorld reported.

AMD has achieved great price to performance ratio with its new chips and the company will focus on these chips in the coming years and the next generation of these chips is already in development. Gamers and PC enthusiasts are ow waiting for Intel to respond to AMD Ryzen. It is reported that Intel might launch its Coffee Lake series of processors later this year to fire up the competition with Ryzen.
