Intel Coffee Lake processors which were slated to be launched next year according to the leaked roadmaps will be launched this year only. This comes as a bit of surprise as Intel Kaby Lake was released in Q4 2016 only.

According to arsTECHNICA, Intel has confirmed that its 8th generation CPUs will be based on the same 14nm manufacturing process which is same as that of the Intel Kaby Lake. Intel already ditched its "Tick-Tock" strategy and the new 8th gen Intel Coffee Lake processors will be more refined and optimized than the current generation Intel Kaby Lake processors.

Intel is promising around 15% jump in performance for the Coffee Lake processors as compared to Intel Kaby Lake. It is believed that Intel will bump up the base clock speed to achieve the boost in performance. The new microarchitecture is based on a three-phase model - Process, Architecture and Optimization. The new processors are compatible with LGA 1151 socket, reported PCWorld.

Intel Coffee Lake processors will go head-to-head with AMD Ryzen and it is expected to offer better performance with improvements and tweaks at a competitive pricing. MD Ryzen will feature an eight cores and 16 threads processor as a top of the line Ryzen CPU. Intel is also expected to bring a similar performance chip in the upcoming Coffee Lake series of processors.

There is still no information about the lineup of Coffee Lake processors or Coffee Lake CPUs but Intel is expected to add a six-core chip with 12 threads. Currently, only Xeon and Extreme editions have more than four core CPUs.

Intel Coffee Lake processors are expected to come in both desktop and mobile variants. The next gen, Intel Cannon Lake CPUs which are expected to arrive on a 10nm node might be pushed to first half of 2018. These chips are expected to bring huge performance improvements with a low power consumption.
