AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100 & WX 5100: Overview, Specs And Comparison

AMD announced its Radeon Pro WX series graphic cards based on Polaris architecture last year at SIGGRAPH. The RX series is targeted at the mainstream consumer market and WX series is meant for professionals. The WX series consist of three cards - WX 700, WX 5100 and WX 4100.

AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100

The AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100 is the world's most powerful workstation GPU, as reported by AMD on their official website. The GPU delivers outstanding performance thanks to it 2304 stream processors and 8GB GDDR5 memory. It is designed for VR applications and it easily handles complex models and datasets. The card is powerful enough to drive 4K displays at 60Hz framerate.

The graphics card is based on the fourth-generation of Graphics Core Next (GCN) GPU architecture and can perform arithmetic instructions in parallel. The GPU has HDR capability and drives up to two 5K dual-cable displays at 60 Hz. It can also be combined with three more Radeon Pro WX 7100 cards for high processing power sufficient to work with 4K video streams in real time. It has a maximum power consumption of 130 watts.

AMD Radeon Pro WX 5100

AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100 is the mid-range card in the series and features 1792 stream processors and 8GB of GDDR5 memory. The GPU has 256-bit memory interface and supports 5K displays. This card has a 10-bit color range, HDR support for precise color range and enhanced level of details, reports HotHardware.

The card has a peak performance of 3.9 TeraFLOPS and has maximum power consumption of 75 watts. The card has significantly less power consumption at idle state thanks to AMD ZeroCore Power.

AMD Radeon Pro WX series cards are aimed at workstation professionals who require high performance for applications such as Autodesk and SOLIDWORKS. These cards are not meant for gaming though they have similar architecture and performance as their mainstream counterparts. The RX series is targeted towards gamers and mainstream users.
