After a promised meeting with actor Ron Perlman and "Hellboy" creator Mike Mignola, director Guillermo Del Toro had to break the news. Heading to Twitter to share the heartbreaking update, Del Toro told fans and followers that "Hellboy 3" won't be happening 100%.

Perlman, who played as the red-skinned titular demon "Hellboy" in the films, gave a short yet suggestive reply to Del Toro's announcement. In his own tweet, the "Pacific Rim" star stated that a superhero is in need of employment, and that the superhero likes pizza, cats and Mars bros. Whether this means that he was good to go for the ultimately-cancelled "Hellboy 3", fans are free to speculate.

As for possible plans to talk about "Hellboy 3", Movieweb adds that according to Del Toro's tweet, it would be the final thing about the supposed "Hellboy" trilogy. This definitely places the final nail on the decade-long coffin.

Previously, the "Trollhunters" director went on Twitter, asking fans if they want "Hellboy 3" via a poll. Del Toro even ups the ante by asking 100,000 votes, with a promise of sitting down with Perlman and Mignola if the number was met. As GameSpot reported, the poll got 133,000 votes within 24 hours, clearly showing that there is a huge following for "Hellboy 3".

"Hellboy 3" was meant to be the finale for the planned "Hellboy" trilogy of films. Starting with 2004's "Hellboy" and 2008's "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army", there was a desire to complete the story, yet lacking in finances. In a 2015 statement with the Television Critics Association, he said that a budget of $120 million was needed to create "Hellboy 3", an amount no one is offering to them up until this time.

It would be safe to say that "Hellboy 3" won't be seeing the light of day, at least fans got a proper closure. Guillermo Del Toro is currently working on another sequel, "Pacific Rim 2: Maelstrom."
