Apple Watch Series 3 will experience significant technological changes and major of them would be Apple's decision to switch to a glass-film touchscreen compared to the touch-on-lens solution in the current generation Apple Watch. Apple is moving away from TPK which is the company responsible for producing touchscreen displays for Apple Watch. This is due to TPK being not able to profitably produce enough displays for the Apple Watch. This might be the reason as to why the watch had inventory constraints.

Apple might probably turn to Beil Crystal or General Interface Solution for the production of glass-film touchscreens for the Apple Watch Series 3. The report mentions that the shipment of new displays for the Apple Watch Series 3 will began in the latter half of this year. This information matches with the previous reports from supply chain which claimed that Apple Watch Series 3 will launch in the third quarter of 2017.

The decision to use the glass-film display for Apple Watch Series 3 has been taken by Apple because of better yield rates and glass-film technology is cost friendly. The new Apple Watch will have improved battery life and performance and as per the report, the new watch will be manufactured by Quanta, as reported by MacRumors.

There are speculations of cellular capabilities in the next Apple watch according to the analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo. Apple could include an LTE chip for cellular purposes in Apple Watch Series 3. It is expected that Apple will launch the next watch model alongside the iPhone 8 in September this year, reported 9To5Mac.

Apple Watch Series 3 might include a number of technical innovations as Apple filed patents such as heart rate, monitoring system, modular bands, band with a haptic feedback and a band with built in charger.
