Although Disney has green-lit the live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid" yet, reports suggest that there have been developments with respect to the project. Some notable names are also reportedly involved in the film.

Deadline reported that Marc Platt and Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda have been tapped for the project, with the latter working with eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken to write new songs for the movie.

Chloë Grace Moretz was initially attached to play Princess Ariel, but later dropped out of the role as well as other movie commitments. "So I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again," Moretz told The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm realizing that I can slow down."

With the role of Princess Ariel now up for grabs, here are some of the actresses who are fan-favorites to bring the character to life.

Hailee Steinfeld

Steinfeld has proven that she can sing, dance and act-all three essential requisites for the role of Ariel in "The Little Mermaid." What's more, she has an Academy Award nom for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 2010 film "True Grit." In all respects, she has the makings of a true Disney princess.

Emma Stone

Essential to portraying the role of Ariel is being a redhead, and Stone is one of the most popular redheads in Hollywood. Stone's critically acclaimed role in "La La Land" is proof of Stone's ability to command a flawless musical performance. If Stone's age (she's 28 years old) would not be a hindrance, she would be perfect for the role of Princess Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" live action.

Anna Kendrick

Steinfeld's "Pitch Perfect 2" co-star is also a favorite for the role. She actually portrayed Ariel in a "Saturday Night Live" sketch and she nailed it.

Karen Gillan

Another redhead, Gillan is also a favorite to play Princess Ariel on screen. She also has a great singing voice, which means she could belt out all the tunes for "The Little Mermaid" film.

Madeleine Petsch

Petsch is a newcomer on the list. The redhead bombshell is currently seen on The CW's "Riverdale" as the manipulative queen bee Cheryl Blossom. She even had a brief singing stint in "Riverdale," where her character sang "Sugar Sugar" with Josie and the Pussycats.
