‘Pokémon GO’ News and Update: Predicting the Evolution Tyrogue Will Take

In the main "Pokémon" games, there was a way to know and manipulate which evolution Tyrogue would take when it reaches level 20. Interestingly, with its addition to "Pokémon Go" roster thanks to the Generation 2 update, its evolution method is strikingly similar.

The main "Pokémon" titles base Tyrogue's evolution on its highest stat. If the Attack stat is higher than Defense, then it becomes Hitmonlee. If Defense takes the front seat, then it becomes Hitmonchan. It turns to Hitmontop if both Attack and Defense are tied. "Pokémon Go" adapts this idea, albeit a bit modified.

According to Pokémon Go Informer, Tryogue's Individual Value (IV) dictates its evolution after using 25 candies in "Pokémon Go." It means that ito get a Hitmonlee, Tyrogue's highest IV must be Attack, Defense for Hitmonchan and HP for Hitmontop.

In the chance that two or three IVs are tied, the evolution would be trickier. The system would then randomize the evolution, based on the highest IVs. This tells "Pokémon Go" players that a Tyrogue with an equal amount of Attack and Defense and lower HP would have a 50% chance of evolving into either a Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan.

To determine its highest IV, Eurogamer suggests that "Pokémon Go" players check Tyrogue using the Apprisal tool and the Team Leader will then notify which stat is the highest. For some number-crunchers, the IV calculators from different sites could also be used.

Introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver, Tyrogue is the only other Pokémon aside from Eevee that has more than two evolutions. It also holds the distinction of being the only Pokémon in seven generation that evolves via its stats.

Generation 2 Pokémon were recent additions to "Pokémon Go," Niantic's mobile game based on the popular game franchise. "Pokémon Go" is available for both iOS and Android.
