"The Beguiled" movie for 2017 will star Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Kirsten Dunst, Colin Farrell and Angourie Rice. The gothic film will revolve around women in a Confederate boarding school and a Union soldier they nurse back to health. Things are not what they seem in the school, though, as the women start to turn on each other for the soldier's attention.

The upcoming "The Beguiled" movie is an adaptation of the 1971 film, which, in turn, was adapted from the novel "A Painted Devil" by Thomas Cullinan. The Southern Gothic novel is a story about an injured Union soldier who is on the brink of death. He is found and rescued by a young girl from a boarding school, Miss Martha Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies. Clint Eastwood starred as the Union soldier in the 1971 version, while Colin Farrell will take on the role in the 2017 movie.

The main plot is about the women turning on each other for the soldier's affections. It doesn't end well, though, when they eventually decide to kill him to end their problems. According to Business Insider, "The Beguiled" movie will be a lot darker and will delve into the strange and isolated world of the boarding school in rural Mississippi.

The 2017 movie is directed by Academy Award winner Sofia Coppola, who also directed "Lost in Translation," "Somewhere," "The Virgin Suicides," "Marie Antoinette" and many more. "The Beguiled" movie trailer reveals that the new film will have a more demented twist. At the end of the trailer, a man's strained voice can be heard saying, "What have you done to me, you vengeful b******?!"

That scene will clue readers in to the fact that the 2017 movie adaptation is going to have some Gothic horror and suspense elements. Coppola has worked with some members of "The Beguiled" movie cast before. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coppola had worked with Kirsten Dunst in the 2006 drama "Marie Antoinette" and the 1999 "The Virgin Suicides". The director also worked with Elle Fanning in "Somewhere".

The film will explore the dynamics between women stuck in an isolated area largely untouched by the Civil War. The year is 1864 and Miss Martha (Nicole Kidman) has a tight rein on the school. In Coppola's film, the point of view will focus largely on the women instead of the injured soldier. "The Beguiled" movie will hit theaters on July 23.
