‘Suicide Squad 2’ ‘Safe House’ Daniel Espinosa As Next Choice To Direct In Place Of Mel Gibson

During the 89th annual Academy Awards ceremony, "Passion of the Christ" Mel Gibson mentioned about directing "Suicide Squad 2." In his speech, though he already made a talk about the movie yet he did not confirm that he will be the one directing it. In case Gibson won't make it, Warner Bros already had the second choice for the director's seat which is "Safe House" Daniel Espinosa.

The first sequel of "Suicide Squad" has received many awards on the Oscar for Hairstyling and Makeup. The movie also brought a grand total of $745 million at the box office. This makes it more interesting for Gibson to Direct the second sequel.

Gibson also added that he loved the story and it is fun to shoot, but he continued saying that there is more to elevate any type of concept, Movie Web reported.

"Suicide Squad 2" will star Will Smith and Margot Robbie with the rest of the original cast. For now, there was no final announcement for the movie yet so fans just need to wait and see.

Den Of Geek also reported, that the first director of "Suicide Squad" David Ayer is currently busy with Harley Quinn spinoff "Gotham City Sirens," so it is impossible for him to return in the sequel. Mel Gibson also sounds uncommitted yet, so probably Espinosa might be on the next target to make it.

If Gibson won't make it, Warner Bros is also eyeing for "Zombieland's" Ruben Fleischer, as well as "Warm Bodies" Jonathan Levine. Still, Gibson is the company's first choice which underlines their commitment to director focused projects.

There was no clear announcement of "Suicide Squad" yet especially when it comes to releasing date. Development and talks are still on the process as "Gotham City Sirens" got the company's higher priority for now.
