Marvel has a lot of films out this year, but it hasn't forgotten its promise to fans that the "Gambit" movie will happen soon. Actor Channing Tatum will play Gambit, the Cajun mutant in his own solo movie. The film's producer revealed that filming could start next year after the script gets finalized by the end of 2017.

Everyone wants to get on board the superhero movie train and Channing Tatum is one of the lucky few who have been cast as another X-Men member in the upcoming "Gambit" movie as the titular character. The movie was hinted to air in 2016, but it never happened. Many fans thought it would mean that they will never get to see the card-slinging mutant on the big screen, but "X-Men" producer Simon Kinberg revealed that the movie is almost ready.

Kinberg told Comicbook that the "Gambit" movie is in active development. He also said that production could start early in 2018. He also revealed that there will be three "X-Men" related movies coming out this year. "Logan" has already aired, but "Deadpool 2" and "The New Mutants" will still come out next year. Kinberg also said that Tatum was dedicated to getting Gambit's character right, so that it would be as well-received as "Deadpool".

During the course of the "Gambit" movie production, two directors left. Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman were slated to helm the film, but they bailed instead. Regardless, Kinberg promised the fans that the movie will continue. The "Deadpool" film also suffered many problems, from finding the right director to getting the shooting schedule right. Now, it's the first highest-grossing R-rated movie in Marvel's line-up, so there's still hope for Gambit's solo project.

According to Nerdist, the "Gambit" movie faces an issue with the fact that its main character is a breakout hero on the same level as Wolverine or Iron Man. Gambit is on par with the Guardians of the Galaxy, who were not as well known as the Avengers, but Marvel made the movie work. "X-Men" comicbook fans know Gambit, of course, and Tatum is well-known for playing the rakish and funny action hero with a laidback personality that might just make this gambit worth the risk.
