‘Pokemon GO’ Gen 2 Update, News: Niantic CEO Teases New Ideas Being Developed

The recent "Pokemon GO" Gen 2 update introduced tons of new content to the massive augmented reality game. But apparently, developer Niantic Labs just will not let up. In the works is a new "Pokemon GO" update or series of updates that are teased to bring something totally new to the game.

The latest reveal came from John Hanke, Niantic Labs CEO. During the ongoing SXSW Conference and Festivals in Austin, Texas, which runs from March 10 to 19, Hanke revealed that his team is currently working on new ideas after the recent "Pokemon GO" Gen 2 update, Express reported.

Unfortunately, Hanke has not revealed the specifics on what these new ideas could be, saying that the "other projects we're not quite ready to talk about." Whatever these might be, they are expected to be something totally different from the new content dropped by the recent "Pokemon GO" Gen 2 update.

Meanwhile, the recent "Pokemon GO" update that dropped around 100 new Gen 2 Pokemon quickly became a source of confusion among gamers, especially those who want to collect them all. Apparently, not everything can be collected at the moment, according to a Forbes report.

While gamers anticipated having around 85- 100 new Gen 2 Pokemon, the real number of new monsters could be closer to 49. Actually, there are a lot of deductions from the previously expected 100 new Gen 2 types of Pokemon.

For instance, Heracross and Corosola are region-specific Pokemon. Heracross can only be found in South America while Corosola is believed to be found only in African or at a certain latitude, which means that it is not available to all players.

In addition, 6 Legendary/Mythic Pokemon are still unavailable despite the "Pokemon GO" update, according to the article. Apparently, Niantic Labs is still uncertain how to release these premium ones.

On the other hand, 8 of the new types can only be evolved from Gen 2 evolution items. While not totally impossible, getting them boils down to luck. Most will not be lucky though as they are extremely rare.

Smeargle is also not available at the moment because its fighting style is said to be too complicated that it posed a challenge to the team. Meanwhile, there are 12 Gen 2 Pokemon that do not hatch from eggs or are rare in certain areas. Another 15 of new Gen 2 may only be evolved from the 12 hard to obtained Pokemon mentioned above and by default, getting them is equally challenging.
