TVD co-creator Kevin Williamson recently confessed that "The Vampire Diaries" series finale was supposed to include a marriage proposal from Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerhalder) to Elena Gilbert (played by Nina Dobrev) but it was cut at the last moment due to a lack of time. Weirdly, TVD fans are not too upset about it!

"The Vampire Diaries" series finale was fulfilling for the fans in so many ways that they do not particularly mind the fact that one crucial scene was omitted from it. Delena fans loved the fact the endgame included the reunion of their favorite couple - Damon and Elena, something that they had been praying for a while now.

On the other hand, even though Stephen (played by Paul Wesley) had to sacrifice himself merely hours after getting married to the love of his life, Caroline (played by Candice King), he got to do it for his brother and find peace in his afterlife with his best friend Lexi (played by Arielle Kebbel). Life also came to a full circle in Mystic Falls in "The Vampire Diaries" series finale with many of the old faces returning for a final goodbye, even if it was through ghostly cameos.

But Kevin Williamson told TV Guide that there was a lot more that he and his co-creators wanted to put in "The Vampire Diaries" series finale, but had to cut out due to the time factor. One of those scenes was Damon's proposal to Elena!

"...there was a moment in the show where he proposed, and she responded after medical school. And the whole point of that moment was just to show that she became a doctor," said Williamson. However, in the end, they decided to scrap the entire scene from "The Vampire Diaries" series finale and just show Elena wearing scrubs as she filled in her diary at the Salvatore burial ground.

What people might have missed during "The Vampire Diaries" series finale was the big shiny rock on Elena's finger as she blissfully took Damon's hand - the clear remnant of the deleted scene. It still waits to be seen if the proposal scene makes it to the "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 DVD, The Huffington Post reports.

Nevertheless, Williamson admitted that it was impossible to make everyone happy so they just settled for doing the best they can because the ultimate goal of "The Vampire Diaries" series finale was to "say thank you" to the loyal fans for making the show was it became. And from the thousands of emotional tweets from fans on the final episode, they did manage to do it.
