‘Legion’ Season 2 News & Update: Dan Stevens Teases Professor X Cameo; Patrick Stewart Agrees

The story of David Haller continues in "Legion" Season 2 as FX has given the green light for the renewal. Plot details and cast updates for the installment remain scarce, although Dan Stevens hinted at the appearance of Professor Xavier in the series.

Eric Schrier, President of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions, confirmed the renewal. According to Den of Geek, Schrier confirmed the installment in a press statement, where he praised showrunner Noah Hawley for "taking the creative risks and shattering expectations" with his interpretation of David Haller. He also acknowledged that the great audience response for Season 1 paved way for "Legion" Season 2. 

In the same press statement, Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, reaffirmed the release of "Legion" Season 2. He also thanked Hawley for bringing the character to life. "Noah's spectacular take on David Haller and all the other characters he brought to life makes us ache for more," he said.

Details about "Legion" Season 2 remain under wraps. FX has yet to announce a release date. However, according to Deadline, it could air in early 2018. Early talks reveal the installment will also have eight episodes like Season 1. The original casts, Dan Stevens, Jean Smart and Aubrey Plaza are expected to return.

Story wise, the installment might delve into David Haller's relationship with his father Professor Xavier. Dan Stevens hinted at the professor's cameo during a guest appearance with Patrick Stewart on the "Late Late Show with James Corden."

Stevens, who plays Haller, suggested that Professor X might as well cameo in "Legion" Season 2 since the show revolves around his son. Stewart then agreed to reprise Professor Xavier in the series much to the audience's delight.

Regardless, only FX and Marvel have the final decision whether to cast Professor Xavier in "Legion" Season 2. If the professor does cameo then perhaps the installment will touch on Haller's daddy issues.
