Scarlett Johansson is among the women eyed to play Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel. She initially auditioned for the first film but lost the role to Rooney Mara since the director then thought she was too sexy for the part.

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel is on a lookout for a new Lisbeth after Rooney Mara confirmed she will not reprise the character. Among the names linked to the lead role is Johansson. According to Variety, the studio is looking to cast the "Ghost in the Shell" star to portray the role.

This would not be the first time that Johansson's name was linked to Lisbeth in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." She initially auditioned for the lead role in the first film. However, David Fincher, the film's director, thought she did not suit the part.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fincher practically described Johansson as being "too sexy" to be Lisbeth. Despite a great audition, Fincher did not look past her physical attributes. He still thought that Johansson could not pull off the edgy and punk Lisbeth described in Stieg Larsson's book. "The thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off," Fincher said.

Now, Johansson is back as one of the contenders for the lead role in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel. Aside from Johansson, "Star Wars" star Natalie Portman is also in the mix to play Lisbeth. It is now up to director Fede Alvarez who among these two talented stars he wants to play as Lisbeth in his film.

Alvarez said that "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel already has a great script. What is missing now casting the right actress for the lead role. Will Alvarez acknowledge Johansson's acting skills outside of her beauty? Will she live up to his expectation as the new Lisbeth? Fans will eventually find out before the film hits theaters on Oct. 5, 2018.
