Samsung Galaxy S8 Update, Specs, Launch Date: Unit to Contain Iris Scanner & Bixby Assistant

Samsung has yet to formally unveil its Samsung Galaxy S8, but leaked specs and details have already surfaced online. The new unit will have new designs and colors, as well as the highly awaited iris scanner and the Bixby virtual assistant. Retail boxes for the unit are already being circulated, but its official unpacking for the public will still be on March 29.

With the Samsung Galaxy S8 launch date fast approaching, leaks have sprung up everywhere online. Smartphone insider and leaker Evan Blass revealed images of the new unit's design and colors on his Twitter account, according to BGR. The unit will launch in Orchid Grey and Black Sky variants, but there will be more options after next week.

Other Samsung Galaxy S8 specs reveal that there will be a centered camera setup, with a fingerprint scanner beside the camera sensor. The unit will also reportedly have an iris scanner, which will be a breakthrough feature among smartphones. It will also have a 18.5:9 aspect ratio, with Snapdragon 835 on a 10nm processors. The label Galaxy S8 will be imprinted on the back of the phone.

Android Geeks reported that the Samsung Galaxy S8 phone will have a 5.8-inch dual-curved edge Super AMOLED display with 1440 x 2960 QHD+ resolution. Accordingly, Samsung aims to rectify the fiasco that happened with the S7 that was recalled after reports of it malfunctioning and endangering its users.

Samsung Galaxy S8 leaks also revealed that the unit will have 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The phone will have a 12MP rear camera and 8MP front camera with Dual Pixel technology. It will be dust and water resistant, with faster connectivity tools. Also, the new unit will have a Bixby virtual assistant, a new feature among smartphones. Accordingly, it's currently the smartest virtual assistant in the industry.

Inside the retail boxes, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is said to contain AKG-branded earbuds, a micro USB connector, charger, and regular USB connector. The price for a unit starts at 799 EUR and it will run on Android 7.0 Nougat, with dual-SIM slots. It will also bear a 3000 mAh battery. It will be launched at the Galaxy Unpacked 2017 on March 29 in New York.
