AMD has an answer to the NVidia's GeForce GTX 1080Ti as the company is working hard on its upcoming "Vega" GPU architecture. The new architecture is expected to place AMD at a fierce competition with NVidia.

AMD has teased more information about its new GPU architecture and the new cards will come with 4GB and 8GB memory configurations. As per the reports, AMD is also saying that its 4GB cards will match the memory performance of NVidia's GeForce GTX 1080Ti, as reported by The Inquirer. This is because the company has opted for HBM2 memory for AMD Vega that offers high bandwidth.

The new HBM2 (High Bandwidth Memory Second Generation) that will power AMD Vega GPUs will offer great power efficiency too. As said by the vice president and general manager of Radeon gaming at AMD, Scott Herkelman, the 4GB HBM2 memory will offer similar bandwidth as the 11 GB memory on NVidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti. However, there are still no benchmarks or tests that could prove the statement.

It is rumored that the new AMD Vega RX 500 series could launch in the third week of April and will be based on the Polaris GPU architecture. The flagship card will be called RX-580 and will be based on the Polaris 20 XTX. The XTX moniker comes from the naming scheme that AMD used previously around 5 years ago. The low-powered Radeon RX-560 will be built on the Polaris 20 architecture, reported HotHardware.

The lower-end model, RX-550 will be based on the Polaris 12 architecture. All the RX series chips will be fabricated on a 14nm chip using the Fin-FET process so there will be advantages such as great power efficiency and a smaller chip size. The company also plans to take up a higher share of the gaming laptop market which is currently dominated by NVidia. The "Vega" is AMD's response to NVidia's 10-series cards.
