"Zombieland 2" is definitely happening, and reports reveal that the sequel is currently in active development. A script is being written from the creators of "Deadpool."

Speaking to ComicBook, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script for "Zombieland 2" while Ruben Fleischer is attached to direct. "It is [in active development]. We're trying to get it going. All of our cast have read the script and love it. Ruben [Fleischer] is signed on."

The duo added that the studio is currently in negotiations with the cast of "Zombieland 2," including the original quartet Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin. It was also revealed that the cast have read the script and that they "love it."

"All the cast have become superstars now so, we made 'Zombieland' with 20 million, so it's trying to fit that financial model into the sequel model so it makes sense for the studio and being able to pay the actors what they now get paid and deserve to paid," they added.

Although Reese and Wernick didn't discuss the "Zombieland 2" plot, Fleischer previously shared his plans for the sequel. According to /FILM, in the initial plot, Columbus (Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Harrelson), Witchita (Stone) and Little Rock (Breslin) would face more than just zombies. Although that plot was revealed by Fleischer three years ago, it's likely the film would still go into the direction.

Since "Zombieland" was released in 2009, the cast has since appeared in various big-budget projects. Eisenberg portrayed Lex Luthor in "Batman v Superman." He also headlines "Now You See Me" and the sequel together with Harrelson. The latter on the other hand has appeared in "The Hunger Games" movies and is set to star in the Han Solo spinoff movie.

Breslin is all grown up and is part of Ryan Murphy's hugely popular series "Scream Queens." Stone, meanwhile, has become a huge star in her own right. The actress recently received critical acclaim for her role as Mia in the lauded "La La Land," for which she received an actress for Best Actress.

Stay tuned for more updates on "Zombieland 2."
