James Gunn confirmed that Sylvester Stallone is in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" for an important role. Speculations are rife that he plays one of the Nova Corps members or one of the Elders of the Universe.

Gunn has since hinted that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" has clues to Sylvester Stallone's role in the film. Of course, he did not point out these clues. However, rumors from the set of the movie claim the actor wears a costume that harks back to his days in "Judge Dredd." This means he wears a helmet and a leather suit.

According to Den of Geek, Sylvester Stallone may have landed the role of a Nova Corps member. This is supposedly hinted by his helmet in Judge Dredd, which is similar to those worn by the members. At his age, it is likely that he plays Jesse Alexander, the Nova Centurion who passed his powers to his son Sam.

Aside from a Nova Corps member, Sylvester Stallone could have landed another role in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Gunn has since revealed that the action star plays an important role in the sequel. This is why, according to Nerdist, Stallone could be playing one of the Elders of the Universe. Among the other Elders of the Universe include The Collector and the Grandmaster.

It makes sense for the Elders of the Universe to appear in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" since the film sets up Thanos' appearance in "Avengers: Infinity War." These elders have plans for the Infinity Stones and Thanos is after them too.

It seems being one of the Elders of the Universe fits Gunn's description of Sylvester Stallone having an important role in his film. Regardless, fans will eventually find out who he plays when the movie hits US theaters on May 5, 2017.
