"Madam Secretary" has been picked up by CBS for a season 4. The political drama that has been one of the most successful shows for the network got a well-deserved early renewal recently.

"Madam Secretary" Season 4 will have 18 episodes, just like its third installment, TV Series Finale reports. The news of a renewal could not have come at a better time since the season 3 of the show is at its penultimate episode with the final episode set to air on April 9.

There was quite some doubt surrounding the renewal of "Madam Secretary" since Season 3 seemed to be performing poorly compared to its earlier seasons. The ratings for the current season had slipped by 23% in the demo and 16% in total viewership.

Nevertheless, CBS recognized the potential of "Madam Secretary," which stars  Téa Leoni as the lead character. Other prominent characters on the show are Keith Carradine, Tim Daly, Bebe Neuwirth, Željko Ivanek, Sebastian Areclus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe.

Not much else is known about "Madam Secretary" Season 4. Any new plotlines or cast members that may be joining the show have been strictly kept under wraps. However, with the announcement of its renewal going public, fans can expect trailers and spoilers for the upcoming season hitting the news soon, Stars Post reports.

CBS has ordered early renewals of 17 other shows apart from "Madam Secretary." They are "The Big Bang Theory," "Blue Bloods," "Bull," "Hawaii Five-o," "Kevin Can Wait," "Life In Pieces," Macgyver," "Man With Plan," "Mom," "NCIS," NCIS: Los Angeles," "NCIS: New Orleans," "Scorpion," "Superior Donuts," "Survivor," "48 Hours," and "60 Minutes."

The final episode of the show is titled "Good Bones" and will revolve around the crime of child trafficking. Check out the trailer for "Madam Secretary" Season 3 Finale.
