Mel B's sister, Danielle Brown, addressed the speculations surrounding the former Spice Girl's divorce from her husband, Stephen Belafonte, due to the increasing number of disturbing phone calls from the media. In the message, she slammed her brother-in-law in no uncertain terms, going as far as calling him  a "sorry excuse of a man."

Brown, posted a long message on Instagram because she stated that she was getting fed up of receiving non-stop calls from the media asking her and her mother for a statement regarding Mel B's divorce, E! Online reported. She also put to rest the false rumors that claimed that the former Spice Girl's family is siding with Belafonte instead of their own flesh and blood.

"@stephenthinks11 8 years of abusive calls me and my mum have had stating we would never see Melanie again," Brown wrote, regarding Mel B's divorce. "I am laughing and celebrating as you [ Belafonte] were wrong. You are a sorry excuse of a man!!"

The above post suggests clearly that Belafonte had forced Mel B to become estranged from her own family, over the years. However, after the death of her father last month, the former Spice Girl became close to her family again, which is also when she had an epiphany and decided to separate from her allegedly abusive husband.

In the past, Belafonte's brother, Jeremiah Belafonte, had described Mel B's soon to be ex-husband as "cold," "hard," and "violent," which coincides with the former Spice Girl's official version of the accusation as she reiterated in front of the court. She said that her husband felt the need to inflict physical violence upon her every time she had success in her career, Mirror reported.

Belafonte's lawyers, however, released a statement, denying all the domestic violence allegations against their client. They have stated that Mel B's accusations are nothing but a "smear campaign" launched to boost her chances of getting sole custody of the kids and get an upper hand as far as alimony goes.
