Walt Disney and Lucasfilm have announced the release date for its lineup of movies for 2019, including "Star Wars: Episode IX." The installment is set for release in May, which is unlike its recent predecessors that got a Christmas schedule.

"Star Wars: Episode IX" does not have the usual December release, unlike "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" which is scheduled on Dec. 13, 2017. Instead, the studios confirmed the film's release date on May 24, 2019. However, there is still a possibility the film could get pushed back to a later date.

According to Flickering Myth, "Star Wars: Episode IX" could still get a December release given what happened to "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." Lucasfilm initially scheduled the film for a May release, before they changed their mind and moved it to December.

"Star Wars: Episode IX" will be the last of the "Star Wars" sequel and will see the return of the original characters in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Adam Driver are confirmed to reprise Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren, respectively. However, Carrie Fisher may not appear as General Leia since Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has reportedly ruled out the use of CGI.

Likewise, it is unclear if Mark Hamill will be in "Star Wars: Episode IX." Speculations are rife that he dies in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," amid theories that he is the Last Jedi referred in the film. That cryptic dialogue Hamill's Luke Skywalker uttered in the trailer for Episode VIII seems to foretell his death. "It's time for the Jedi to end," Luke says in the video below.

Film director Colin Trevorrow ("Jurassic World) will direct "Star Wars: Episode IX" from a new story. Contrary to reports, Rian Johnson is not involved in the creative process. According to Inverse, Kennedy confirmed that the writers will have to create a new story, following the death of Fisher.

"Star Wars: Episode IX" comes out in theaters after the Han Solo spinoff movie. The anthology film is scheduled for a release date on May 25, 2018.
