“Mind of a Chef” announced last week that Danny Bowien, will star in its upcoming sixth season. It was made through a super brief video for the PBS award winning documentary series. The 22-second clip shows Bowien riding his heart out to techno music at Soul Cycle. It does not mention, however, when the next season will premiere.

Danny Bowien is the chef behind Mission Chinese, a trendy restaurant in New York and San Francisco. He was born in South Korea, who was adopted by a family in Oklahoma. Bowien was already an adult and already burned out from working in fine dining establishments when he ended up teaching himself how to cook Chinese food reports The Salt.

The first Mission Chinese Food was a pop-up restaurant with a punk-rock and DIY attitude. Danny Bowien put it in an existing Chinese restaurant in San Francisco’s Mission District. The hole-in-the-wall takeout joint drew long lines aside from getting rave reviews. Bon Appetit and GQ magazines both named it one of the best new restaurants of 2001.

“Mind of a Chef” is narrated by Anthony Bourdain, who also acts as its executive producer. It prides itself as an intelligent show about cooking and takes a close look at what it’s really like to live in a food driven world. The show is also infused with travel, history, science and art but its driving force that many say is the secret to its success is its offbeat humor. Other chefs featured in the show’s previous seasons include Ludo Lefebvre, Gabrielle Hamilton, Magnus Nilsson, Ed Lee, David Kinch, Sean Brock and David Chang reports Food and Wine.

Danny Bowien first appeared in a “Mind of a Chef” special that premiered on Netflix in January and is still streamable on YouTube. It showed the relationship between the worlds of food and music. The 47-minute special culminates in a potluck dinner of four chefs that included Bowien, a host of todays hottest musicians and Bourdain.

Danny Bowien brought “Beggar’s Duck” which he made by covering the bird with clay and a mix of condiments before throwing it in the oven. The “Mind of a Chef” special ran on the idea that many of people’s fondest memories revolve around music or food and oftentimes, the intersection of both.
