‘Steven Universe’ Season 5 Spoilers: Steven To Explore New Powers, New Challenges

Series creator Rebecca Sugar dished some "Steven Universe" Season 5 spoilers in a recent interview. She teased that the installment brings news challenges for Steven, especially when it comes to exploring other powers.

Sugar teased what happens in "Steven Universe" Season 5 in her interview with The Verge. The showrunner talked about the challenges that the titular character is bound to face in the installment. Steven especially has to accept that there are things that he cannot do, especially when it comes to what his family wants.

"Throughout the show, he's put everyone else first, and his main goal has been to become the person his family wants him to be. That's got to shift," Sugar said. The showrunner especially mentioned Rose Quartz and her influence on Steven. She teased that in "Steven Universe" Season 5, Steven learns to accept that he cannot be his mother. "He's got to accept that it's impossible to fill the shoes of his mother, Rose Quartz," Sugar added.

In the same interview, the series creator hinted at what could be an emotional development for the titular character in "Steven Universe" Season 5. In the installment, Steven learns to explore what it means to be human. Sugar said that Steven realizes that humans have powers too that can compete with the Gem powers.

"There are powers that people have as human beings to understand themselves and define themselves and make their own choices," Sugar said. This is an incredible power that is often taken for granted or ignored. However, Steven will soon explore this power from the humans in "Steven Universe" Season 5.

Further details about what happens in "Steven Universe" Season 5 remain under wraps. The show ended with Episode 4, "Lars Head," which showed Steven bring Lars back from the dead. According to Den of Geek, this certainly questions whether Lars is a zombie or not.

However, it is clear that Steven's love for his friends always saves the day. He will continue to spread this love going into "Steven Universe" Season 5, with or without the aid of his Gem powers.
